A. DEFINITION OF COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
Cookies are small text files that websites may store on a user’s device through their browser, allowing information to be retained and reused during the same visit or on subsequent visits.
Cookies may be used to enable website navigation, maintain an active session, remember user preferences, manage an online shopping cart, improve website security or collect statistical information about the use of services.
In addition to cookies, other technologies may be used, including local storage, session storage, pixels, web beacons and other identifiers, which may allow information to be stored or certain activities to be detected.
The applicable legal requirements depend on the specific purpose of each technology and the information being processed.
TYPES OF COOKIES
Cookies may be classified according to their purpose, duration and the entity responsible for managing them.
Technical and Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are used to enable communications over an electronic communications network or to provide a service expressly requested by the user, to the extent strictly necessary for its delivery.
They may be used to:
- ensure the proper functioning and security of the website;
- maintain active browsing sessions;
- manage authentication for registered users;
- enable shopping cart functionality and purchases;
- store cookie consent preferences;
- protect forms and services against fraud, spam and abusive activities.
Strictly necessary technical cookies do not require the user’s prior consent under Article 122 of Italian Legislative Decree No. 196/2003, without prejudice to the obligation to provide adequate information.
Functional Cookies
Functional cookies allow certain user preferences to be remembered, such as the selected language and other settings relating to the display of content.
Where they are strictly necessary to provide a functionality expressly requested by the user, they may be used without prior consent. In other cases, where required by applicable law, they are activated only after consent has been obtained.
Analytics and Statistical Cookies
These cookies are used to collect information about how visitors use the website, including visitor numbers, sessions, pages viewed, traffic sources and interactions with content.
Analytics cookies may be treated as technical cookies only when they meet the conditions established by applicable legislation and the Guidelines issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority.
Third-party analytics services require appropriate data minimization measures and restrictions on further processing, significantly reducing the identifying potential of the collected information and preventing its combination with other data.
Simply displaying aggregated reports is not, in itself, sufficient to make the personal data used to generate them anonymous.
Where the conditions for an exemption are not met, the use of analytics cookies requires the user’s prior consent.
Marketing and Advertising Cookies
These cookies are used to analyse users’ interests, preferences and behaviour, measure advertising campaign effectiveness, attribute conversions or display personalized advertisements.
The use of cookies and other non-essential tracking technologies for these purposes is subject to the user’s prior consent.
Without consent, these technologies must not be activated for marketing and profiling purposes, in accordance with applicable legislation.
First-Party and Third-Party Cookies
First-party cookies are managed by the domain of the website being visited.
Third-party cookies may be set or accessed by entities other than the website operator, for example through external services integrated into its pages.
The distinction between first-party and third-party cookies does not automatically determine whether consent is required. The actual purposes and methods of processing must also be considered.
